Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Revolution Plus is a prescription, monthly topical combination antiparasitic medication for cats and kittens. It contains two active ingredients, selamectin (a macrocyclic lactone of the avermectin class) and sarolaner (an isoxazoline). Selamectin works by interfering with chloride channel conductance in nerve and muscle cells of parasites, leading to paralysis and death. Sarolaner blocks GABA- and glutamate-gated chloride channels in insects and acarines, causing increased nerve stimulation that results in parasite death. Revolution Plus provides broad-spectrum protection against fleas (Ctenocephalides felis), four types of ticks (Amblyomma americanum, Amblyomma maculatum, Dermacentor variabilis, Ixodes scapularis), heartworm disease (Dirofilaria immitis), ear mites (Otodectes cynotis), roundworms (Toxocara cati), hookworms (Ancylostoma tubaeforme), as well as preventing flea tapeworm infection by killing fleas before they can transmit Dipylidium caninum. It is approved for use in cats 8 weeks or older weighing at least 2.8 lbs[3][4][6][7][10].
