Overview

Reximmune-C is a pathotropic (disease-seeking) nanoparticle gene therapy developed by Epeius Biotechnologies for the treatment of various solid tumors. It consists of a retroviral vector carrying the human granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF) gene. The therapy is designed for intravenous administration, utilizing a targeting mechanism that allows the nanoparticles to accumulate in cancerous lesions. Reximmune-C was intended to be used sequentially following treatment with Rexin-G; while Rexin-G induces tumor cell death to release neoantigens, Reximmune-C expresses GM-CSF to recruit dendritic cells, killer T cells, and plasma B cells into the tumor microenvironment. This approach aims to establish a personalized, long-lasting anti-tumor immune response. Clinical development reached Phase I/II for indications such as breast, colon, and pancreatic cancers, but the program was discontinued around September 2015.
