Rexista

Rexista is an investigational extended-release, abuse-deterrent oral formulation of oxycodone hydrochloride developed by Intellipharmaceutics for the continuous, around-the-clock management of moderate to severe chronic pain requiring long-term opioid treatment. It uses a proprietary controlled-release matrix that maintains oxycodone plasma levels over an extended period and incorporates multiple abuse-deterrent features, including formation of a highly viscous gel upon crushing and exposure to liquid and the release of an intense blue dye when chewed or crushed, intended to deter manipulation for snorting, injecting, or chewing by making abuse more difficult and visible.[1][8][12] The product is designed to be bioequivalent to existing extended-release oxycodone formulations, without significant food or alcohol “dose-dumping” effects, but its New Drug Application was not approved by the FDA, which requested additional data on its abuse-deterrent properties and a new proprietary name.[1][2][4][9]
