Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rezira is an oral solution combination product containing hydrocodone bitartrate, a semisynthetic opioid agonist antitussive, and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride, an alpha-adrenergic sympathomimetic decongestant, formulated for the symptomatic relief of cough and nasal congestion associated with the common cold in adults. Hydrocodone suppresses the cough reflex centrally by binding to mu-opioid receptors in the brainstem, while pseudoephedrine produces vasoconstriction in nasal mucosa to reduce congestion. The product was originally developed by Cypress Pharmaceutical and marketed by Hawthorn Pharmaceuticals, carries boxed warnings typical of opioid-containing products (including addiction, abuse, misuse, and life-threatening respiratory depression), and is scheduled as a controlled substance.
