Overview
Rezpegaldesleukin is an investigational biologic therapy developed by Nektar Therapeutics and Eli Lilly and Company. It is a polyethylene glycol (PEG) conjugate of recombinant human interleukin‑2 (IL‑2), designed to selectively stimulate the proliferation of regulatory T cells (Tregs) by targeting the interleukin‑2 receptor complex. This mechanism aims to restore immune balance by increasing Treg numbers and function without activating cytotoxic CD8+ or CD4+ T cells, which are implicated in autoimmune diseases. Rezpegaldesleukin is being evaluated for moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis, severe-to–very-severe alopecia areata, systemic lupus erythematosus, and type 1 diabetes mellitus. The drug has shown rapid improvement in disease outcomes in clinical trials for atopic dermatitis and has demonstrated safety and tolerability across multiple studies[1][3][6][8].
