rF-gp100P209 is a recombinant fowlpox virus-based cancer vaccine designed for the treatment of metastatic melanoma. The vaccine utilizes a non-replicating fowlpox viral vector to deliver the genetic sequence for the melanoma-associated antigen gp100, specifically containing the HLA-A*0201-restricted peptide epitope gp100:209-217 (P209). By expressing this antigen in vivo, the vaccine is intended to stimulate and expand a population of cytotoxic T-lymphocytes capable of recognizing and destroying melanoma cells that present the gp100 protein. In clinical settings, it has primarily been investigated by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Surgery Branch in combination with lymphodepleting chemotherapy, adoptive cell transfer of tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs), and high-dose interleukin-2 (IL-2) to enhance the persistence and efficacy of anti-tumor immune responses.
