Overview

RF-II is a purified protein fraction derived from the plant *Rhus toxicodendron* (poison ivy), which has been investigated for its potent anti-inflammatory and anti-arthritic properties. The drug's mechanism of action involves the significant inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines, specifically tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β), and interleukin-6 (IL-6). Research indicates that RF-II modulates the immune response by suppressing the activation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) and reducing the production of nitric oxide and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). Primarily studied in the context of rheumatoid arthritis, RF-II aims to alleviate joint swelling, bone erosion, and synovial inflammation. While it has shown promise in preclinical models and small-scale clinical observations, it remains an investigational natural product extract rather than a widely approved pharmaceutical agent.
