The combination of recombinant F1 (rF1) and V (rV) protein antigens is a subunit vaccine candidate developed to protect against infection by *Yersinia pestis*, the causative agent of plague. Both proteins are virulence factors secreted by *Y. pestis* during infection. The vaccine works by inducing strong humoral and cellular immune responses; immunization with these antigens leads to the production of specific IgG antibodies that correlate with protection in animal models. The mechanism involves antigen uptake and presentation by dendritic cells, leading to T-cell activation and antibody production. This combination has demonstrated additive protective effects compared to either component alone in preclinical studies and has shown safety and immunogenicity in phase 1 clinical trials in humans[2][3][4]. The primary indication is for prevention of plague.
