Overview
rFIXFc-XTEN is an investigational recombinant Factor IX (FIX) fusion protein designed for the treatment of hemophilia B. The molecule incorporates two distinct half-life extension technologies: Fc fusion and XTEN (a recombinant polypeptide). By inserting XTEN sequences into the EGF2 or activation peptide (AP) domains of the rFIXFc protein, the drug is engineered to significantly prolong the circulating half-life of Factor IX. This extended profile is intended to enable prophylactic subcutaneous administration with a frequency of once weekly or less, potentially offering a more convenient alternative to the frequent intravenous infusions required by standard FIX replacement therapies. Originally developed by Bioverativ (now a part of Sanofi), the program is part of a collaboration with Sobi, which holds an opt-in right for final development and commercialization.
