Drug intelligence / Profile preview
RFUS-188 is a novel small molecule analgesic developed by Yichang Humanwell Pharmaceutical, currently in Phase II clinical development for the management of acute postoperative pain. It functions as an antagonist of the Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) channel, a non-selective cation channel primarily expressed in sensory neurons that plays a pivotal role in nociception and the integration of various painful stimuli, including heat and inflammatory mediators. By blocking TRPV1 activation, RFUS-188 aims to attenuate the transmission of pain signals following surgical trauma. The drug is administered via intravenous injection and is being evaluated as a potential non-opioid alternative or adjunct to improve postoperative pain control and reduce reliance on opioid analgesics.
