RG-7652 is a humanized monoclonal antibody developed by Roche and its subsidiary Genentech that targets proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9). It was investigated for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and the reduction of cardiovascular risk. By binding to PCSK9, the antibody prevents it from interacting with low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR) on the liver surface, which otherwise leads to receptor degradation. This inhibition results in increased LDLR density and enhanced clearance of LDL cholesterol from the plasma. Development of RG-7652 was discontinued by Roche in the mid-2010s.
