Overview

RG-HRV16 is a reverse genetics-derived human rhinovirus 16 (HRV16) inoculum developed by the University of Wisconsin, Madison. It is a standardized biological agent designed for use in clinical challenge studies to safely and reliably induce symptoms of the common cold in healthy volunteers. Unlike traditional inocula derived from human nasal secretions, RG-HRV16 is produced using molecular cloning and reverse genetics techniques, which ensures a high degree of purity, consistency, and freedom from adventitious agents. This tool is primarily utilized in Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials to evaluate the efficacy of novel antiviral therapies, vaccines, and treatments for respiratory conditions such as asthma exacerbations that are frequently triggered by viral infections.
