RG6179

RG6179 (also known as RO7200220) is a humanized IgG2 monoclonal antibody developed by Roche (Genentech) that specifically targets and neutralizes the interleukin-6 (IL-6) cytokine. Unlike other anti-IL-6 therapies such as tocilizumab or satralizumab which target the IL-6 receptor, RG6179 binds directly to the IL-6 ligand. This mechanism is designed to inhibit both cis- and trans-signaling pathways of IL-6, which are implicated in the pathogenesis of ocular inflammatory diseases. It is currently being investigated for the treatment of uveitic macular edema (UME) and non-infectious uveitis (NIU), typically administered via intravitreal injection to provide localized anti-inflammatory effects within the eye while minimizing systemic exposure.
