Overview

RGB5088 is an autologous cell therapy developed by Hangzhou Reprogenix Bioscience for the treatment of diabetes, specifically type 1 diabetes. The therapy utilizes chemically induced pluripotent stem cell-derived islets (CiPSC-islets), which are transgene-free cells differentiated into functional, insulin-producing beta cells. The mechanism of action involves the replacement of damaged or absent pancreatic islets with these autologous cells to restore endogenous insulin production and physiological glucose regulation. RGB5088 has demonstrated clinical safety and efficacy in early studies and received IND approval from the NMPA in 2024, moving it into Phase 1 clinical development.
