Drug intelligence / Profile preview
RGDW peptide (arginyl-glycyl-aspartyl-tryptophan) is a synthetic linear tetrapeptide containing the canonical RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) integrin-binding motif extended with a tryptophan residue. It acts as a selective antagonist of the platelet integrin αIIbβ3 (glycoprotein IIb/IIIa), specifically blocking the binding of fibrinogen to αIIbβ3 and thereby inhibiting platelet aggregation. In research settings, RGDW is widely used as a tool compound to study the relationship between platelet aggregation and subsequent clot contraction (retraction). By selectively preventing fibrinogen-mediated platelet aggregation while leaving platelet-fibrin interactions intact, RGDW allows researchers to isolate and investigate the mechanisms of clot contraction and identify novel small-molecule inhibitors of this process.
