RGL-236

RGL-236 is a recombinant humanized monoclonal antibody designed to target and neutralize interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β). Developed by Suzhou Rigen Biopharma, it is specifically formulated for intra-articular injection to treat knee osteoarthritis (KOA). IL-1β is a key pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a central role in the pathogenesis of KOA by driving the production of matrix metalloproteinases and other degradative enzymes that lead to cartilage destruction and joint pain. By locally inhibiting IL-1β within the joint space, RGL-236 aims to provide symptomatic relief and potentially exert disease-modifying effects. The drug is currently undergoing Phase I clinical evaluation in China to assess its safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and preliminary efficacy in patients with primary knee osteoarthritis.
