Overview

RGX-200 is a preclinical-stage small molecule drug candidate developed by RemeGenix for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. The compound is designed to interfere with the production of amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides, which are central to the formation of senile plaques in the brains of Alzheimer's patients. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation or inhibition of the secretase enzymes—specifically beta-site amyloid precursor protein cleaving enzyme 1 (BACE1) and gamma-secretase—that are responsible for the sequential cleavage of amyloid precursor protein (APP). By targeting these "APP secretases," RGX-200 aims to reduce the amyloidogenic processing of APP and mitigate the neurodegenerative effects associated with Aβ accumulation. The drug is part of RemeGenix's focus on multifunctional or dual-pathway therapies for neurodegenerative disorders.
