Overview

RGX-314 + topical steroid is a combination therapy comprising RGX-314, an investigational gene therapy delivered via adeno-associated virus serotype 8 (AAV8) vector encoding an anti-VEGF monoclonal antibody fragment, plus a topical corticosteroid (steroid) used prophylactically to mitigate ocular inflammation. RGX-314 induces sustained intraocular production of an anti-VEGF agent, aiming for long-term suppression of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) to control retinal neovascularization in diseases such as neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) and diabetic retinopathy (DR). The topical steroid is used adjunctively, especially with suprachoroidal or subretinal administration of RGX-314, to prevent or treat mild to moderate intraocular inflammation associated with the gene therapy. RGX-314 was developed by REGENXBIO and is being further co-developed and positioned for commercialization by AbbVie[1][3].
