Overview
RH109 is a lyophilized (freeze-dried) mRNA vaccine candidate developed by Rhegen Bio (also known as Wuhan Recogen Biotechnology) for the prevention of COVID-19. As a next-generation mRNA vaccine, RH109 is engineered for improved thermal stability, allowing for storage and transport at standard refrigerated temperatures (2-8°C) rather than the ultra-cold temperatures required by first-generation mRNA vaccines. The vaccine utilizes mRNA encoding the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles. Clinical development has focused on its use as a booster dose in healthy adults who have previously completed a primary vaccination series with either inactivated or mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccines.
