Overview

Rhabdocell is an inactivated rabies vaccine developed by the Instituto de Tecnologia do Paraná (Tecpar) for use in dogs and cats. It is produced using BHK (Baby Hamster Kidney) cells infected with the adapted PV (Pasteur Virus) strain of the rabies virus through a high-density perfusion cell culture method. This production technique offers improved safety and efficacy compared to older methods using mouse brain tissue. The vaccine stimulates the production of neutralizing antibodies to provide protective immunity against rabies. It is a key component of Brazil's national vaccination campaigns and is licensed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Supply (MAPA).
