RHAMM R3 peptide is an investigational peptide-based cancer vaccine developed by the University Hospital Ulm (Universitätsklinikum Ulm) in Germany. It consists of a synthetic 9-amino acid peptide with the sequence ILSLELMKL, which is derived from the Receptor for Hyaluronic Acid-Mediated Motility (RHAMM), also known as CD168. RHAMM is a leukemia-associated antigen (LAA) that is highly overexpressed in more than 80% of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), as well as in myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) and multiple myeloma (MM). The vaccine is designed for HLA-A2-positive patients and is typically administered subcutaneously, emulsified with the adjuvant Montanide ISA-51 and co-administered with GM-CSF. Its mechanism of action involves the induction of MHC class I-restricted, epitope-specific CD8+ cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) that recognize and lyse RHAMM-expressing tumor cells.
