Rhamnus extract is a botanical preparation derived from plants of the genus *Rhamnus*, commonly known as buckthorns. These extracts, often prepared using solvents like methanol for research purposes, contain a variety of secondary metabolites, most notably anthraquinones such as emodin, frangulin, and cascarosides. While traditionally used as stimulant laxatives (e.g., Cascara sagrada), *Rhamnus* extracts are being explored for potential antineoplastic activity. Research presented at the AACR 2017 Annual Meeting indicated that methanolic extracts of *Rhamnus* exhibit inhibitory effects on the viability of several cancer cell lines, including lung (A549), colon (SW620 and Colo320), breast (BT549), and cervical (HeLa) cancers.
