Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a multi-agent combination therapy consisting of four active pharmaceutical ingredients: - **rhEGF (recombinant human Epidermal Growth Factor):** A biologic protein that stimulates cell proliferation and wound healing by binding to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR). It is primarily developed for the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers and other chronic wounds. - **Povidone iodine:** An antiseptic agent with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. It works by releasing free iodine, which rapidly kills bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa on contact. Commonly used for skin disinfection and oral mucositis prevention. - **Chlorhexidine:** A cationic bisbiguanide antiseptic effective against a wide range of bacteria. It disrupts microbial cell membranes and precipitates cellular contents. Used in oral care to prevent mucositis and as a skin disinfectant. - **Nystatin:** An antifungal polyene antibiotic that binds to ergosterol in fungal cell membranes, creating pores that lead to leakage of cellular contents. Used mainly for treating or preventing Candida infections. This combination may be considered for comprehensive management of infected or at-risk wounds (such as diabetic foot ulcers) or severe oral mucositis where both antimicrobial coverage (bacterial/fungal/viral) and tissue regeneration are desired[2][3][6][8]. However, some evidence suggests potential antagonism between nystatin and chlorhexidine when combined directly[1].
