Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rhenium (186Re) sulfide colloid (RE-186-MM1) is a therapeutic radiopharmaceutical developed by CIS bio international (a Curium company) for radiosynoviorthesis (RSO), also known as radiosynovectomy. It consists of a colloidal suspension of rhenium-186 sulfide particles. Rhenium-186 is a beta-minus emitter with a physical half-life of approximately 3.7 days, which also emits a low abundance of gamma rays suitable for imaging. When administered intra-articularly into affected joints, the colloidal particles are phagocytosed by synovial cells, delivering localized beta radiation that destroys the inflamed, hyperplastic synovial membrane (synovitis) while sparing deeper tissues. It is approved in several European countries for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, seronegative spondyloarthropathies (such as psoriatic and reactive arthritis), pigmented villonodular synovitis, and hemophilic arthropathy.
