Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rhenium-188 lipid nanoparticles are an experimental radiopharmaceutical formulation consisting of the beta- and gamma-emitting radionuclide rhenium-188 encapsulated within lipid nanoparticles (liposomes). Developed for theranostic applications in oncology, these nanoparticles deliver localized beta radiation to tumor cells, inducing DNA double-strand breaks and cell death. In preclinical research, they have been combined with Cherenkov radiation-activated nitric oxide (NO)-releasing photosensitizers to alleviate tumor hypoxia and enhance radiosensitivity in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC).
