Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rhenium-188 resin (commercially known as Rhenium-SCT) is a therapeutic radiopharmaceutical developed by OncoBeta for the treatment of non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC), including basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). It is applied topically as a non-sealed paste or compound onto a protective foil placed over the skin lesion, delivering localized beta radiation (from the beta-emitting radioisotope rhenium-188) up to a depth of 3 mm. This targeted epidermal radionuclide therapy directly damages tumor cell DNA and induces indirect cytotoxicity via reactive oxygen species and bystander effects, while sparing surrounding healthy tissue. It is also being evaluated for other skin conditions such as actinic keratosis, extramammary Paget's disease, and keloid scars.
