Overview

Rhenium-SCT (Rhenium Skin Cancer Therapy) is a non-invasive, epidermal radiopharmaceutical therapy developed by OncoBeta GmbH for the treatment of non-melanoma skin cancers (NMSC), specifically basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The therapy utilizes the beta-emitting radioisotope Rhenium-188 ([188Re]) formulated in a resin compound. It is applied topically to an adhesive foil placed over the lesion, delivering localized ionizing radiation to cancer cells up to a depth of 3 mm while sparing underlying healthy tissue. This modality is classified as a form of brachytherapy or epidermal radioisotope therapy. It is typically administered in a single outpatient session and has demonstrated high efficacy in clinical trials, such as the Phase IV EPIC-Skin study, which reported a 97.2% complete response rate at 6 months.
