Rheum palmatum extract is a herbal preparation obtained from the root or rhizome of Rheum palmatum L., a plant also known as Chinese rhubarb or Turkey rhubarb. The extract contains a complex mixture of anthraquinone glycosides (such as chrysophanol-1-monoglucoside, emodin-6-monoglucoside, aloe-emodin-8-monoglucoside, physcion monoglucoside, rhein-8-monoglucoside), dianthrone glycosides (such as sennoside A-F), and free anthraquinones (including chrysophanol, emodin, physcion, aloe-emodin, rhein)[1][3][5]. These constituents are responsible for its pharmacological activities. The extract is primarily used as a **stimulant laxative** for the short-term treatment of constipation and is recognized in both traditional Chinese and modern herbal medicine[4][5][6].
