Rheum webbianum extract is an ethanolic preparation derived from the Himalayan medicinal plant *Rheum webbianum* Royle. It is being investigated for its chemopreventive and anticancer properties, particularly in the context of colorectal cancer. The extract demonstrates antiproliferative and antimigratory effects in colorectal adenocarcinoma cells (such as HT-29) and shows protective efficacy in animal models of 1,2-dimethylhydrazine (DMH)-induced colon carcinogenesis. Its mechanism of action involves the downregulation of β-catenin and TGF-β1 expression, thereby inhibiting oncogenic Wnt/β-catenin and pro-metastatic TGF-β signaling pathways. Additionally, it has been observed to restore rectal tissue architecture and reduce inflammatory lesions and dysplasia.
