Rheumate

Rheumate is a prescription medical food developed by Primus Pharmaceuticals for the clinical dietary management of the metabolic effects and side effects associated with methotrexate (MTX) therapy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Methotrexate acts as a folate antagonist by inhibiting the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, which can lead to folate deficiency and associated toxicities such as gastrointestinal distress, liver dysfunction, and cognitive impairment (often referred to as "MTX fog"). Rheumate contains a specific combination of L-methylfolate (the active form of folate), cobalamin (Vitamin B12), and caffeine. L-methylfolate bypasses the metabolic block created by MTX to support cellular processes, while Vitamin B12 and caffeine are included to help mitigate fatigue and cognitive side effects. It is intended for use under medical supervision.
