Overview

rhFbgAα610 is a recombinant human fibrinogen (rhFGN) variant characterized by intact Aα chains of 610 amino acids, which corresponds to the predominant molecular variant found in human plasma. Developed by the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), it is being investigated in ex vivo laboratory studies (such as the FIBRINOGEN study) to evaluate its effects on blood coagulation parameters compared to other recombinant variants and plasma-derived fibrinogen. As a component of the coagulation cascade, it serves as a substrate for thrombin-mediated conversion into fibrin and subsequent stabilization by Factor XIIIa to form blood clots. Its potential applications include the treatment of coagulopathy, blood loss-induced coagulation disorders, and perioperative bleeding in cardiac surgery.
