rHIgM22 is a recombinant human monoclonal IgM antibody developed as an investigational therapy for multiple sclerosis (MS). It binds to myelin and the surface of oligodendrocytes, promoting remyelination in animal models of demyelination. The drug stimulates differentiation of oligodendrocyte precursor cells into mature oligodendrocytes and accelerates repair of damaged myelin sheaths in the central nervous system. Preclinical studies demonstrated its ability to enhance remyelination and protect oligodendrocytes. Clinical trials focused on evaluating safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and immunogenicity in MS patients following acute relapse. rHIgM22 was being developed by Acorda Therapeutics in collaboration with Mayo Clinic but development has been discontinued after phase 1 clinical trials for MS[1][2][3][4][5][6].
