Overview

Rhinitrin is an oral antihistamine developed and marketed by Remed Pharmaceuticals in the Philippines. Its active ingredient is cetirizine dihydrochloride, a second-generation H1 receptor antagonist. It works by selectively inhibiting peripheral H1 receptors, thereby blocking the physiological effects of histamine, a primary mediator in allergic reactions. Unlike first-generation antihistamines, cetirizine has a reduced tendency to cross the blood-brain barrier, resulting in lower sedative effects. Rhinitrin is indicated for the symptomatic relief of allergic conditions, including seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives). It is available in oral formulations, specifically as a 5mg/5mL syrup.
