Overview
Rhizoma Imperatae, also known as Bai Mao Gen, is the dried rhizome of the perennial grass *Imperata cylindrica*. Widely used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it is traditionally indicated to clear heat, cool the blood, stop bleeding, and promote urination. Its chemical profile includes polysaccharides, flavonoids, triterpenoids, and organic acids. Modern pharmacological research has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and hepatoprotective activities, with studies suggesting modulation of the NF-κB, TGF-β1, and TNF-α pathways. It is commonly administered as a decoction or in granule form for conditions such as hematuria, urinary tract infections, and nephrotic syndrome.
