Overview

Rhizoma Paridis saponins (RPS) are the primary bioactive steroid saponins extracted from the rhizome of *Paris polyphylla* (known as Chonglou in Traditional Chinese Medicine). RPS has demonstrated significant antineoplastic activity, particularly in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) models, where it induces G1 cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. The molecular mechanism involves the downregulation of cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) and p53, alongside the upregulation of p21, BAX, and BCL2. Beyond its potential in oncology, these saponins are widely utilized in China for their hemostatic, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties, most notably in the treatment of functional uterine bleeding and inflammation.
