rhPDGF-BB + PRF is an experimental combination therapy being investigated by the University of Alabama at Birmingham for use in bone grafting and regenerative dentistry. It combines recombinant human Platelet-Derived Growth Factor-BB (rhPDGF-BB), often sourced from the commercial product GEM21S, with autologous Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF). PDGF-BB is a potent growth factor that promotes the recruitment and proliferation of osteoblasts and mesenchymal stem cells. PRF serves as a biological scaffold that provides a sustained release of endogenous growth factors. By adding exogenous rhPDGF-BB to PRF, researchers aim to standardize and enhance the growth factor profile of "sticky bone" grafts, potentially improving the predictability and rate of bone regeneration.
