Overview

Rhubarb powder is a botanical preparation derived from the dried roots and rhizomes of *Rheum* species, such as *Rheum palmatum* or *Rheum officinale* (commonly known as Dahuang in Traditional Chinese Medicine). It contains active anthraquinones (such as emodin, rhein, and aloe-emodin) and tannins, which exert laxative, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial effects. In clinical trials, such as those conducted by the Union Hospital of Tongji Medical College, rhubarb powder is being evaluated for its potential to reduce intestinal bacterial translocation, systemic inflammation, and endotoxemia in patients with decompensated cirrhosis.
