Overview

rhuCD40L is a recombinant human form of the CD40 ligand (also known as CD154), a protein that plays a critical role in immune system activation. It acts primarily by binding to the CD40 receptor on B cells and dendritic cells, stimulating their activation and proliferation. This interaction is essential for immunoglobulin class switching and effective immune responses. The drug was developed as an immunostimulant for conditions such as primary immunodeficiency (notably X-linked hyper IgM syndrome) and was also investigated in oncology and viral infections. Despite early clinical trials—including phase 2 studies in primary immunodeficiency—development has been discontinued for all indications[1][4][5].
