Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Rhus verniciflua stokes urushiol-free extract powder (also known as MU2) is a botanical extract and functional food ingredient developed by Lifetree Biotech. It is derived from the heartwood or stem of the lacquer tree (*Rhus verniciflua* Stokes), a plant traditionally used in East Asian herbal medicine. During processing, the allergenic constituent urushiol is removed via water/ethanol extraction and spray- or freeze-drying, resulting in an urushiol-free status authenticated by the Korea Advanced Food Research Institute. The extract is standardized to fustin, with other key active phenolic compounds including fisetin, gallic acid, and sulfuretin. It exhibits antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties. In 2014, it was approved by the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) as a natural health functional ingredient indicated for the improvement of climacteric symptoms (andropause) in men.
