Overview

**Rhynchophylline** is a natural tetracyclic oxindole alkaloid derived primarily from *Uncaria rhynchophylla*, a traditional medicinal plant. It is recognized for its neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, antihypertensive, antiarrhythmic, anti-addictive, anticonvulsant, and sedative effects. Mechanistically, rhynchophylline acts as a modulator of neurotransmitters, suppressor of calcium and potassium channels, and has demonstrated inhibition of ephrin type A receptor 4 (EphA4) tyrosine kinase and suppression of inflammation via inhibition of MAPK/NF-κB signaling. It has been shown to reduce neuronal apoptosis and inflammation, prevent neurotoxicity in PD and AD models, and modulate several metabolic and signaling pathways relevant to neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases[1][3].
