Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ribavirin elaidate is a lipid vector technology derivative of ribavirin. It is an investigational small molecule drug developed for the treatment of aggressive thyroid cancers (follicular, medullary, anaplastic thyroid carcinoma). The compound acts as a prodrug of ribavirin and is designed to inhibit eukaryotic initiation factor 4E (elF4E), which plays a role in cell growth and cancer progression. It has received orphan drug status from the FDA for these indications but has not progressed beyond preclinical development.[3][4][7]
