Overview

Riboceine is a synthetic compound consisting of D-ribose and L-cysteine, developed to enhance endogenous glutathione synthesis and support cellular antioxidant defenses. The patented structure enables effective delivery of cysteine into cells, which is the rate-limiting precursor for glutathione biosynthesis. D-ribose serves as a substrate for ATP production, providing cellular energy. Studies in animals and humans show that riboceine supplementation elevates glutathione levels, reduces oxidative stress markers, and may protect normal cells from chemotherapy-induced cytotoxicity by decreasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and increasing intracellular glutathione[1][2][4][5][6][7][8]. The compound is primarily researched and commercialized for use as a dietary supplement to support antioxidant status, with potential benefits for aging, metabolic disorders, neuroprotection, and support during chemotherapy.
