Drug intelligence / Profile preview
RIBOCROSS te is a CE-marked medical device developed by Iromed Group S.r.l. for use in corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) procedures. It is a patented ophthalmic solution containing 0.1% riboflavin (Vitamin B2), 10% dextran, and Vitamin E TPGS (d-alpha-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate). The product is indicated for the treatment of corneal ectatic disorders, including keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration, post-LASIK/PRK ectasia, and infectious keratitis. In the CXL procedure, riboflavin acts as a photosensitizer that, when activated by UV-A light, facilitates the formation of covalent bonds between collagen fibers in the corneal stroma. This process increases the biomechanical stability and rigidity of the cornea, halting the progression of ectasia. The inclusion of Vitamin E TPGS serves as a penetration enhancer, which improves the permeability of the corneal epithelium, making the solution suitable for both epithelium-off (EPI-OFF) and epithelium-on (EPI-ON) techniques.
