Overview

Rice bran enzymatic extract (RBEE) is a functional food/dietary supplement ingredient obtained by enzymatic hydrolysis of rice bran, the outer layer of Oryza sativa seeds. Enzymatic treatments—typically using proteases (such as alcalase or flavorzyme) and endoglucanase—serve to inactivate endogenous lipases and lipoxygenases (which cause rancidity), increase the soluble fiber content, improve retention of bioactive compounds (γ-oryzanol, α-tocopherol, polyphenols, ubiquinol-10), and produce bioactive peptides and oligosaccharides with antioxidant and prebiotic properties. RBEE is rich in vitamins (especially B-complex), peptides, and short-chain carbohydrates, and has demonstrated antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, metabolic modulating, and neuroprotective effects in preclinical studies. Its major indications in research and supplements include support for metabolic health, cardiovascular protection, modulation of neuroinflammation, and overall antioxidant action[1][3][8].
