Overview

Ricefidase (KJ103) is a recombinant immunoglobulin G (IgG)-cleaving enzyme developed by Shanghai Bao Pharmaceuticals. Derived from a non-pathogenic strain of *Streptococcus equi*, it is classified as a Class 1 therapeutic biological product in China. The enzyme specifically targets and degrades IgG antibodies, rapidly reducing systemic IgG levels and maintaining them at low levels for approximately one week. It is primarily being developed for desensitization therapy in highly sensitized kidney transplant patients to remove pre-existing HLA antibodies and prevent hyperacute rejection. Additionally, it is being explored for IgG-mediated autoimmune conditions such as anti-glomerular basement membrane (anti-GBM) disease and Guillain-Barré syndrome, as well as for neutralizing anti-AAV antibodies to facilitate gene therapy. In November 2024, ricefidase received Breakthrough Therapy Designation from China's NMPA for kidney transplant desensitization.
