Overview
Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) is a high-potency, full-spectrum cannabis extract characterized by exceptionally high concentrations of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Developed by Canadian activist Rick Simpson, the oil is produced by washing cannabis buds with a solvent (such as grain alcohol or ethanol) to extract cannabinoids, terpenes, and other plant compounds, followed by the evaporation of the solvent to leave a thick, viscous, and dark-colored oil. RSO acts primarily as an agonist at the Cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1) and Cannabinoid receptor 2 (CB2) within the endocannabinoid system. While it is widely used in alternative medicine for conditions such as basal cell carcinoma, chronic pain, epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis, it is not an FDA-approved pharmaceutical drug and lacks standardized clinical evidence to support its therapeutic claims. It is typically available through cannabis dispensaries in jurisdictions where medical or recreational marijuana is legal.
