Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Ricrolin TE** is a proprietary ophthalmic riboflavin formulation developed by Sooft Italia for transepithelial corneal collagen cross-linking in progressive keratoconus. The solution contains riboflavin 0.1% with dextran 15%, trometamol, and EDTA; trometamol and EDTA enhance riboflavin penetration through intact corneal epithelium. Following topical loading, UV-A irradiation activates riboflavin as a photosensitizer, generating collagen cross-links within the corneal stroma to increase biomechanical rigidity and reduce ectatic progression. Ricrolin TE is used as part of an epithelium-on CXL procedure rather than as a standalone pharmacological treatment.
