Overview

**BE-PEP Rifampicin** is the rifampicin component of the BE-PEOPLE enhanced post-exposure prophylaxis regimen being evaluated to prevent **leprosy** among contacts of people with leprosy in the Comoros. It is not a distinct new molecular entity or marketed fixed-dose product; it is **rifampicin** administered as a separate oral antibacterial medicine alongside bedaquiline in the BE-PEP trial regimen. Rifampicin is a rifamycin antibacterial agent that binds the beta subunit of bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, blocking RNA transcription and thereby inhibiting *Mycobacterium leprae* replication.
