Drug intelligence / Profile preview
standard (RC) + amoxicillin/clavulanate is an investigational oral antibiotic combination regimen being evaluated for the treatment of Buruli ulcer, a neglected tropical disease caused by *Mycobacterium ulcerans*. Developed by the Fundación Agencia Aragonesa para la Investigación y Desarrollo (ARAID), the regimen adds amoxicillin/clavulanate (a beta-lactam/beta-lactamase inhibitor) to the current standard-of-care backbone of rifampicin (a rifamycin) and clarithromycin (a macrolide). This triple-therapy approach aims to exploit in vitro synergy between these classes to shorten the treatment duration from the standard 8 weeks to 4 weeks, potentially improving patient compliance and reducing the socioeconomic burden of the disease in endemic regions.
