Overview

Rifamycin sodium is a semi-synthetic antibacterial agent belonging to the rifamycin class, developed and marketed by Guangdong Sunho Pharmaceutical. It exerts its therapeutic effect by specifically inhibiting bacterial DNA-dependent RNA polymerase, which prevents the initiation of RNA transcription and subsequent protein synthesis. This mechanism is highly selective for bacterial enzymes over mammalian counterparts. Rifamycin sodium is primarily indicated for infections caused by susceptible Gram-positive bacteria (such as Staphylococcus and Streptococcus) and certain Gram-negative bacteria. It is commonly used in the treatment of biliary tract infections, respiratory tract infections, and skin or soft tissue infections. The product is formulated as a sterile powder for injection, administered via intramuscular or intravenous routes.
